Caregiver Benefit
As of September 1, 2010 the caregiver limit of $250.00 / week for the first dependent and $50.00 / week for additional dependents is only applicable in the even of catastrophic injury. To obtain coverage for non – catastrophic injuries you will be required to buy the additional benefit.
To help determine your need consider / ask yourself the following questions

are in your household?

Do you have any
children under the age of 16 residing in your home that you are the
primary caregiver for?

Do you take care
of a disabled child over the age of 16 or a person residing in your
household who has a disability or is infirm?
q Do you have family support in close proximity to your residence?
To help illustrate the above questions please consider the following
client profile:
Mr. Smith is a stay at home father who looks after his adult son who is physically challenged and his elderly mother. Both reside in the home of Mr. Smith. The Smith family have limited family support in the city in which they live.
This coverage is strongly recommended unless the insured is fully covered by an alternative policy of coverage. (i.e. coverage through employment group benefits.
